Home Crime Prevention Check List:

Exterior:

__ Mailbox does not have last name affixed, only reflective house numbers.
__ Phone directory does not publish address of single female individual. Initials with last name may be used as an alternate.
__ Shrubbery is trimmed to reduce secluded entry points of places to hide.
__ Advertisements, newspaper and mail deliveries are promptly removed.
__ Neighborhood cooperation is sought to keep "throw aways" picked up.
__ Grass is kept mowed or sidewalks and driveways are cleared of snow.
__ Garage and storage sheds are always locked.
__ No suitcases are placed where passers-by can see pending departure.
__ If not alarmed, one trusted neighbor has access to the home for periodic checks.
__ Identification is always verified of service representatives, occasionally phoning to verify visit.
__ Suspicious persons/solicitors and vehicles with license numbers are always reported to law enforcement.
__ All crimes, or attempted crimes, are reported to law enforcement.

Perimeter:

__ All perimeter doors have dead-bolt locks.
__ Doors and windows are kept locked/secured.
__ Peepholes are installed in solid doors to view visitors.
__ Doors are never automatically opened to the one knocking.
__ Window and sliding door stops are installed to restrict openings.
__ No notes are left on doors referring to planned returns.
__ Perimeter of premises, including trim is kept well painted and in good repair so intrusion attempts may be easily detected and reported to law enforcement.
__ Garage doors should not be left standing open for passers by to "shop" as future intruders.

Interior:

__ Emergency numbers are kept nearby, or affixed to telephones.
__ No personal information is provided to unknown callers/individuals.
__ Travel plans should not be published or told to unknowns.
__ Pilferable items are not on display in windows or in plain sight.
__ Valuables are in a bank safety deposit box.
__ All vehicles are locked and keys held by the owner.
__ Keys to your premises and vehicle are stamped "Do Not Duplicate". Note: Written request on letterhead must be furnished "Certified" locksmith should duplicates be requested in the future.
__ Electric garage door openers are rendered inoperative when residents are traveling.
__ Engraved identification is completed on all pilferable items.
__ Manufacture, model and serial numbers of items w/photos are filed safely.
__ Guns are not displayed in gun racks or cabinets within the home.
__ If not alarmed, light and radio timers are always used including periods of absence.
__ Suspicious telephone solicitors are reported to law enforcement.
